Welcome to my website!  I am grateful for this opportunity to share some of my thoughts about North Dakota’s K-12 education system with the people of this great state. I have championed higher teacher salaries and advocated for equitable funding for school programs.  I have successfully fought for school finance reform. Because of my efforts, and that of my dedicated staff, North Dakota remains consistently in the top tier of states in high school graduation rates and in the number of those graduates who enter college. I am guided by my belief  that kids come first!

North Dakota’s growth, primarily in the fields of energy and value-added agriculture, has added new challenges. Education must partner with business and industry if North Dakota is to remain economically strong. The high demand for skilled jobs offering better pay, creates opportunities for our young people to remain in North Dakota.

I believe I have the proven leadership necessary to keep North Dakota at the forefront of the nation so that our students remain competitive in an ever-increasing global society.
